Superb sides from Sam Cooke’s younger brother including an album never released following Sam’s death and the closure of the SAR label, plus bonus tracks and studio chatter. Sam wrote many of the tracks included and the supporting musicians include Earl Palmer, Plas Johnson, Rene Hall and Bobby Womack. A lovely release topped off by notes from Peter Guralnick.

CDCHM1409 Various: Super Black Blues. An all-star session to incorporate the talents of the blues stars signed to Bluestime in the late 1960s. The big names of Otis Spann, T-Bone Walker and Big Joe Turner take the lead but the supporting band is top-notch (including George ‘Harmonica’ Smith). Only four tracks but each offer plenty of opportunity for the stars to shine.
